Making a Butterfly Chisel for Woodworking

This week i made a butterfly chisel. Chisels are a crucial woodworking tool but they are not very portable-so i solved that problem by crossing a chisel with a butterfly knife. The big inbus screw i added in the end will help with absorbing the force when hammering so the two screws in the handle are protected.
Also big thanks to Hassan who sent me the Damast Steel! check his work here nlworld.info/stream/GLSZj7A1T93IQ3t3cbcXDg.html

Is it just me or does it look like a surprised baby yoga on the bottom of that comb 🤓
I was using a thin grinding disk while I was working on a project. The edge somehow got a nick in it. I thought I will use it until the bad part wears away. The disk caught on an edge and exploded. A piece flew into my hand at the first knuckle on my left hand. I don't know how to explain this without the gore, but the piece went to the bone. I got it stitched, but the whole hand got infected and they had to pull the stitches back out, (to let the gash drain), and they gave me antibiotics. The shot of antibiotic had a very long needle, so my behind now hurt for days as well. lol It has been three months and I can now close the hand without a lot of discomfort. I have been closing the hand to try to stretch out the injured area and have it heal without restriction. The knuckle does not look the same as it did before. I will have to think of an interesting story about it. Maybe, while wrestling with a bear at my campsite..... I ask that you consider wearing a full face shield and gloves, (like the cut resistant type butchers and wood carvers use), when using a grinding disk. Best wishes to you from Nevada USA
you are crazy
I know it is a butterfly knife, but I absentmindedly thought to my self "Switchblade Chisel" and now not only does Laura have another project but I need to go put together a Heavy Metal / Industrial band.
Can you give a hint, where you get the butterfly comb? It looks pretty high quality. Not like cheap stuff. Thx
Why did you use coffe? What for?
Yeah this is illegal in Germany, ask me how I know!
Does anyone know what that coffee dipping step is for?
It’s to bring out the different colours of the two types of steel
The female version of Jimmy diresta
Hope to find wife like you 😅
Good job 👍
the most bad ass chisel in germany
Could you suggest this to Joe B. He needs A lot of help. Pray for all of us.
Hallo Laura! Deine Sachen gefallen mir sehr gut.
Awesome!! I keep a bali (butterfly knife) at my cnc to play with while its cutting. Now I want to make butterfly tools 🔧!!
This was awesome! What a cool idea
Is that the same metal brick from weighing down the sander when making the bar tabletop?
hey great result however the heat treatment probly. didn't work that well since it wasn't hot enough for the quench
Richtig schönes Werkzeug geworden. Toller Stahl.
You did not anneal the steel after hardening?
Thanks for the Video.
Really smart idea! Safer and more useful that regular butterfly knifes.
I was tempted to ask what lager was being used to temper the steel... ;)
Are you not making one for all of us? Take our money!!!! Make a kit!!! I need this more than air
Would like to see a cold coffee etch on the chisel
Looooooove her so much no waste no way!!!!
Thats amazing and I would definitely buy one!
We can always wait for something awesome from you, Laura !!! No matter if it's wood, metal or any other kind of materials mixes 🤩 surrendering to your touch of master and your sensitivity !!!
I thought you were quenching that in Bier and was going to offer a firm "Prost" !
Nice chisel Laura! 👌👌👌
@laurakampf really cool project. You did an awesome job!
Very creative!
Dope
That’s awesome! I love it!
Genius !! Thanx for Sharing !
Making a Butterfly Chisel for Workshop Safety
THIS IS SIIIIIIIICCCKKK
The orientation of the Damascus needed to be rotated 90°
Laura: "That's not a chisel, this is a Chisel!" Love ur work! nlworld.info/key/video/uI-daqrFhYVphIQ
Need a drill press...straighter holes 😉
Laura you want check out Fast Cap they have folding chisel and other stuff. Great build. Keep it up . Stay safe and warm.
So cool!! This makes me want to do it to an old knife I have
The poor little fella looked terrified! 😂
Amazing Laura
Here in the UK we would drink that coffee afterwards. Hate wasting things.
Really nice chisel! But I think you should work on your butterfly skills a bit before you get into a street fight with is.
Be careful with the laws in your country; this could be considered an illegal switchblade in some places. I personally think it's a safer version of a chisel; but judges may see things differently.
Was thinking the same thing. Since there is a "blade" I am pretty sure this would be illegal in Canada. Beautiful work, though!
I just did something similar! I made a marking knife switchblade.
please please pretty please market and sell these!
A chisel that's actually illegal in norway (and some other countries too, I guess)
What a great build , turned out amazing 👍
Was that blue dykem in a spray can?
Nice work. Have to grap a comb!
I leave this under every video I watched, it helps the algorithm.
Interesting techniques vs absolutely useless device 🤫 =))
One of the most beautiful chisels ever created I'd have to say
I like these handtool hacks that you do. Was also very impressed with your bench grinder, sliding, chisel honing rig. I have a Richard Kell honing guide that is great but yours looks very sturdy!
Don’t mess with Laura, she’ll cut your ass with this...chisel... :-p. Wonderful as always, you’re one of my favorite go to channels
What was that coffee bath?
need to practice you flipping skills but that's an awesome idea.
This is real nice way to showcase ur creative chops! And I didn't know u could use coffee like that. Cool build!
No band saw??
I want it
Should make hole set would keep everything way sharp.
Your coffee making method resembles mine on a Monday morning - *starts pouring* more.... More......... More................... Ok that's probably enough. For the first cup.
Great job. But can some explain the coffee part?
Love this idea
Mmmm. Apple juice quenched. Delicious.
As always, inventive, creative, joyful. Best wishes from the Allegheny National Forest in Northwestern Pennsylvania,
For me, this is an ultra cool and handy chisel!! I have a few flat chisels that could fit the bill for a gadget like this. Might try this one myself.
What steels is it a Damascus of?
Fark thats badarse!
I love this. I’ll take a 1/2” one please 🤪
How is that chisel supposed to work if the back is not flat and shiny as a mirror at NASA?
Whimsical and well done!
Excellent project 👍
... Did she just quench steel in an IKEA glass??
So cool!
Advertising yourself for "Forged in Fire"?😎
I really like the idea of being able to protect the sharp edges from being damaged or causing damage to other objects. The case is right there & you don't have to go looking for it. You have a marvelous mind!
This is awesome. There's a dude on Instagram that's developing balisong scissors and they look really well designed.
The grain down the steel is so beautiful, it looks alive. I learn new things from each of your videos Laura, thanks.
Great idea. Close it up and protect the cutting edges.
very slick hack, Habu's Damascus is beautiful. You did that piece of steel proud. Thank you.
Amazing! Why did you dip the chisel in the coffee? Is that a preservative for the metal or a stain?
Why soak in coffee? Quenching in oil I’ve seen before.
The coffee 'stains' the different layers of metal to show the Damascus pattern. It's like a really weak acid. Alec Steele's channel has a video about it if your interested.
👏👏👏
Switch blade carpenters pencil would also be cool
Fun hack ^^
I love the way you think , your ideas and repurposing of items is inspiring .
Wie geil ist das denn!?!!
Thanks for the way you encourage viewers to think creatively.
Nice conversion 👍✌️😊🙏🏼🛠⚒🛠⚒
Great work 🤟 its fun to see your projekts👌 what brand an model is your vest in that video?
