Can we all agree that the year 2020 was an absolute dumpster fire? This week's #FireUp2021 project is a collaboration with my friend and hero Adam Savage. It’s part of Lenovo YOGA and Intel Evo’s #ForAllofUsFridays campaign, which aims to bring the magic back to your weekend with a weekly series of Friday based events. See all events on www.forallofusfridays.com.

Awesome and entertaining action!
😎💥
What a dream to have Adam Savage on speed dial. All the dumb stuff I've pulled off in my shop, that massive encyclopedic brain of his.
this is such a cool project. i used to spin fire poi back in the day and this totally reminds me of that.
waw, this soo good :v.
I ship them
Awesome
Ne oder? Kreisssssch! Cool! :)
Cool
I love it! When the world gets crazy, make crazy beautiful things 😄x
Hey! I do audio stuff for a living and I'd like to offer some unsolicited advice. During the scene where you run the device the audio has this high, crackling noise often referred to as jitter. It usually happens when the audio source is trying to operate at a different clock speed than the receiver (an example would be an Interface and a DAW being clocked at different clock speeds 44.1k vs 48k) it's usually an easy fix if you catch it early enough. The other cause is running too many applications on the computer and saturating the cpu. Anyway I really enjoyed the video and I hope this was more helpful than annoying!
Those long-exposure shots are stunning, Great stuff!
You could also fill it with different metals (idk if copper wool exists) so you'd get different colours of sparks
That's awesome. Would love to see a variety of other metal strands mixed in with the steel wool like copper or borax for green and blues. (lithium could be a bit dangerous for red....).
I like Laura best when she spends time explaining what she's going to do. Some projects don't need an intro, but this was great with the intro. Exquisitely beautiful!
Such a cool idea, and so fun. Thanks for making this
Now bigger
YOOOO those photos are absolutely magical !!
Got a bit emotional on the first call between Adam and Laura. Snif. Ok, that settles it, Laura will some day in the future have to move to California and make a TV show with adam 😊
Pls mount it on a crane and make it spin horizontally (like a ceiling fan, with a spark emitter on each blade), so you can stand in a dome of sparks, but be safe in the middle. Could be an awesome effect in music videos or movies.
I wish I had an ounce of the talent and happiness both you and Adam possess! Well done,
Why didn't you connect the battery to a wire that runs to the wire wool that you can flip a switch and then creates a circuit and it doesn't set the battery on fire?
Because the cable would tangle and rip
What about steel at both ends?
I love your natural joy, when you see your projects working out or being finished. Great and spectacular machine you built there!
I thought u said big, I've seen that done by hand, a turkey roasting pan would b big
“Only you can’t start forest fires”
I see videos like this one of yours and I get super impatient for my daughter to grow older and begin building things with me. I hope and pray my children love creative stuff as much as I do! This was epic Laura!! Amazing job!!
Hey Laura/Laura's Editor, great video. Unfortunately the experience of watching it was ruined for me because the music sections were so much louder than the talking sections, which meant that instead of watching the video uninterrupted I constantly had to fiddle with the volume. Some people like to watch videos in public spaces, or have hearing problems, or are trying to watch the videos without waking their kids. The constant dramatic shifts in volume make it very difficult to watch these videos. Its like watching tv and then the commercials come on and blast you with their message. Base is especially troublesome for this as well. I'm not sitting here so I can groove to the music when it comes on, its filler so that the video flows well. There is no need to turn it up like that since we're not in a club environment trying to dance to it over the noise of other people.
How can something so dangerous, be so soothing?
sehr schön!
wonder if a double pendulum variant of this would work in any capacity...like to take multiple long exposure shots probably
NICE
Such an awesome video!!! Keep up the great content!
I liked the idea of the battery on a spring and using centrifugal force to ignite the steel wool with the 9V battery. While true that the battery could catch fire if exposed to the flame, I thought why not place the battery on the opposide end of the shaft and have wires looping back and into the wool cage. That way the battery is pushed away from the fire using the centrifugal force while also pushing the battery up against the wires and thereby igniting the steel wool. That also makes it so that you would not need an outside fire source for the ignition.
Yes, the new mythbusters!! With Laura Kampf, Simone Giertz and Adam Savage!
call colin furze!
I think the bandsaw used at 2:20 will need new brushes soon...
Looks like whip hitting ground!
4:18 oh hai pupper
2:19 definitely seeing some sparks already
An alternative to the ignition system would be a step up transformer from a cheap taser with a rf switch relay. If you mounted it on the axis it shouldn't affect the balance too much. You could have wires going down into the steel wool.
Seems pretty safe to me. I love spark showers! Nice work!
Bravo! Magical & inspiring!
Tolles Video :) . Zu sehen, wie du mit Adam zusammenarbeitest, macht mich glücklich.
Doctor Strange wants his portal back. ;P
👍
Needed a counterbalance on the short arm for stability at higher speed. Add just enough blei/lead to completely balance the propeller on the axle.
Wow!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Haha. Laura says: "Dangerous THING"! She never saw Colin Furze do firework^^
/me looks at steel wool I have...
I heard you on the Tested podcast, had to see this. Subscribed!
I would have put a big mirror between the arm and the motor to reflect dark and fire light .... :)
How about copper scrubbing pads mixed in! You would definitely get some cool colors.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This is spectacular! Great work!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nice work, maybe you could have a look at this and see if its possible to add some of these chemicals into the steel wool , might give you different colours as it burns, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colored_fire
You could just run 2 wires from a battery mounted on the stick...
Nobody thought about Doctor Strange?
Hei that was super cööl. 😎😎😎
I’m am a big fan of your work, passion and talent! Ty for inspiring me
At 10:52. That looks just like Doc. Strange's magic portal hand swirling thing!
Noch 1-2 Messingspäne für zusätzliche Farben?
Thank you for that. It was much appreciated --something to raise the spirits.
YOUR MUSIC,.... is making want to go play with some new VSTs with my Fruity loops. New drums that thump and keep clear and sound clean. (Ujam Kandy)
I'm confident Adam could motivationally talk me into robbing a bank! me: "man, I just don't know..." Adam: "Oh you'll be just fine, I've played it out in my head many times!" me again: "oh, ok" love his energy and enthusiasm
So cool!
So, basically...you created a 1.4 HP Feuerwerksalternative...😀...!
Krásne 😀
Your text art is such a cool visual feature. but steal wool is quite something as well :D :D :D
All Adams battery on a spring idea needed is some wires run down to the steel wool to extend the battery contacts.
Yeah! That worked. Mind taken OFF of 2020 for a moment of pure happiness!
That was amazing Thank you
Adam's like the NLworld dad, that helps all the different makers with their projects.
A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++wesome!!!
They would love you back home in Catalonia where we do it with fireworks. We call it “Corregocs” nlworld.info/key/video/y3qak72ybJqCl28
Great work!
It’s like fire works on steroids! ❤️❤️
♥️💫
Lovely
Awesome as usual. Your skills and talent are unreal. As is your passion and personality. The thumbnail photo does not quite capture the magnitude of the structure and scale of the piece. Amazing!
Might want to keep in mind the phrase "fail safe" for your lighting system. It doesn't mean the thing can't fail, but that if it does fail it fails in a safe way. As it is, if you lose power to your electromagnet, the torch activates. Also, if the torch tips over and fails to light the wool, there is no mechanism to retract it so you are stuck with "a lit fuse" for a firework that didn't go off.
Incredible
The music name is ""into the black hole""😎😎
That photog at 10:51 is so goshdarn awesome!
Now add a row of LED's to the cross bar and turn it into a sparky POV display.
Wooow! Richtig geil 😀👍 Ich wünsche dir schöne Weihnachten 🎄
2:19 you already had a fireworks-machine
Awesome! Could you put steel wool at both ends to make even more sparks?
Cool as...!!!
Doctor Strange has nothing on you
That was spectacular. Next: BIGGER!
Hallo Laura! Hast du einen Link zur Zimmer Säge? Vg aus Köln!
v2.0 needs a 2nd arm swivel on the propeller to give the chaotic spinning effect.
Shoulda put another basket on instead of the counterweight.
That smile can melt any metal!!!!!
Good work, fabulous visuals. Hmmm, introducing pure oxygen as it burns! Oh! Yeah! "Yeah, that's how it starts. Oohing and ahhing. Then comes the running and screaming..." Close approximation of Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park.
Sehr gut, aber nicht verbrannt werden
That is wicked cool!
Wessen Kopfhörer sind bei 2:11 auch explodiert?! Tolles Video, Laura!
Beautiful!
Love it that's so awesome.
